Avison Young achieves Platinum status with Canada’s Best Managed Companies program

13 March 2018

Avison Young, the world’s fastest-growing commercial real estate services firm, announced today that it has achieved Platinum status with the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program by retaining the Best Managed designation for seven consecutive years.

Sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, Canadian Business, Smith School of Business, TMX Group and MacKay CEO Forums, the Best Managed program recognizes the best-in-class of Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues greater than $15 million demonstrating strategy, capability and commitment to achieve sustainable growth.  Every year, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies compete for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates their management skills and practices. Now in its 25th year, Canada’s Best Managed Companies is one of the country’s leading business awards programs, recognizing Canadian-owned and managed companies for innovative, world-class business practices.

The announcement was made today by the national sponsors and in a special report in Maclean’s magazine (print) and Canadian Business (online).
“On behalf of the board of directors of Avison Young, our employees, our clients and our partners, we are truly honoured to be recognized as a 2018 winner of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies Platinum Club designation,” comments Avison Young Chair and CEO Mark Rose. “The past seven years have been a period of tremendous growth for Avison Young. Throughout it all, our employees in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Europe have set new standards for leadership, innovation and execution while giving back to the communities in which we operate.”

Rose continues: “This award also gives us third-party confirmation that our values, our unique Principal-led ownership structure, our collaborative culture, and our client-centric approach are making a difference in the commercial real estate industry. We thank Deloitte and the other award administrators for recognizing us as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for the seventh consecutive year, and we salute all new and repeat winners.”

“Best Managed Platinum winners have exceptional insights and knowledge into business management practices. They are an inspiration and really take their game to a new level,” states Lorrie King, Partner, Deloitte and Co-Leader of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program.

Over the past nine years, Avison Young has grown from 11 to 82 offices and from 300 to more than 2,600 real estate professionals in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Europe.
“When everyone in an organization is aligned and treats the client as the primary focus at every inflection point of decision-making and service, that approach enhances the culture of the organization,” says Avison Young Principal and Chief Human Resources Officer Pam Mazza, based in Chicago. “The Avison Young culture of collaboration and transparency creates an environment conducive to attracting a diverse group of professionals who co-operate on all fronts. This environment makes day-to-day business management quite easy.”

“Companies that earn Platinum Club status exemplify exceptional vision and leadership and a sustained commitment to growth and innovation,” says Dino Medves, Senior Vice-President and Head, CIBC Commercial Banking. “CIBC is proud to recognize these and all of the 2018 Canada’s Best Managed Companies as leaders in their industries.”

The 2018 winners of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies award will be honoured at the annual Canada’s Best Managed Companies gala in Toronto on April 11, 2018. On the same date, the Best Managed symposium will address leading-edge business issues that are key to the success of today’s business leaders.

Avison Young Principal Jeff Flemington, based in Toronto, notes: “We have always strived to be innovative and creative, and to deliver solutions to our clients with honesty and integrity. Our clients and employees all share this award because without each other, our seven years of success with the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program would not have been possible.”

Adds Avison Young Principal Sherry Quan, based in Vancouver: “Our business strategy has always been to provide unwavering support for clients in all markets by offering a safe pair of hands; this award verifies that our Principal-led, no-silos approach is resonating in the marketplace. We are truly humbled to receive this award.”
