Avison Young gains planning permission for three new Aldi stores

18 June 2019

Avison Young’s Manchester planning team has secured permission for three new Aldi foodstores in the north-west. The sites include Atlantic Street Retail Park, Altrincham; Golden Hill Lane, Leyland and Bury New Road, Bury.

At Atlantic Street, Aldi will re-locate in order to up-size. A former B&Q store will make way for the purpose-built foodstore and a larger customer car park, responding to increases in demand for car parking.

At Golden Hill Lane, Leyland, Aldi will also be relocating from a store that no longer meets its requirements. Aldi will relocate from Towngate to the new site, where Aldi will sit adjacent to a nursery and provide new drop-off spaces for parents.

In Bury, Aldi will again be replacing an existing foodstore. The new store will stand in the same location as the existing. Working with the adjacent McDonalds, the new site layout will deliver a larger foodstore which will continue to anchor the local centre and support nearby businesses. The new site layout will improve access and egress, reducing congestion on the local highways network.

Lee Shaw, from Avison Young said: “The new stores form part of Aldi’s wider expansion plans and demonstrates Aldi’s commitment to enhancing the quality of their offer to customers. The new foodstores will provide more floorspace compared to the existing sites, creating more space for shoppers and allowing Aldi to expand the range of goods on sale in each location.”
