Energy and Natural Resources Consultancy for the Commercial Sector

The country’s energy needs are changing – and so are our sources of that energy

As we gradually transition to renewables, there’s a growing need to find suitable strategic sites to build new plant. There’s also a demand for experts who have the experience, and skill, to successfully develop them. Those experts make up the backbone of our energy consultancy.

We’ve been in the energy property sector for a long time. That experience has been harnessed to deliver a full spread of consultancy and transactional services. We advise clients on all aspects of planning, development, sale or purchase, across every type of property and energy type; from nuclear to thermal, to offshore renewables.

Those clients are drawn from the spectrum of involved parties - energy supply companies, landowners, developers, operators, and lenders. So we always have a keen understanding of your objectives, priorities, and concerns, regardless of your position.

Energy from waste

Waste-to-energy technology continues to present an attractive investment proposition.

Afficher Plus Afficher Moins

Advances in pyrolosis, gasification and autoclave make it a sector with real growth potential. We’ve established ourselves as market leaders in the waste-to-energy property market – the result of our understanding of the sector, and the skill and dedication that we apply to every piece of work.

Our services cover every stage of the waste-energy property lifecycle. This means our specialist energy consultants can help to find the right site, buy and sell land or property, and assist with planning and management. Access to a host of related services and experts is part of that service – part of our broader philosophy of integrated service provision.

We work on landfill gas, materials recycling facilities anaerobic digestion and waste to energy plants for the public sector, banks, investors, landowners and operators. As a client, you’re assured of the same high level of service, whatever your position.

Grid and infrastructure

The construction of new plant to keep pace with rising energy use is vital.

Afficher Plus Afficher Moins

But the infrastructure needed to carry that energy to the consumer is equally important.

We help to deliver infrastructure projects on time and within budget. Our specialist team supports our clients through the entire development process, getting a clear picture of their objectives at the outset – and drawing up strategies to reach them.

In the initial stages of development, we advise on the optimal way to get planning consent. We work hard to ensure that time and money isn’t wasted on fruitless applications. And we create strategies aimed at getting the best use out of potential permitted development rights. It’s a forward-thinking approach, designed to reduce the risk of expensive engineering solutions being required.

We’ve supported the planning process for substations, converter stations, pipelines, cabling and other infrastructure essential to the operation of the UK’s electricity grid. We’ve also successfully secured a range of consents for major linear developments around the country. Our team can negotiate wayleaves and access rights on your behalf, and we have compulsory purchase experts to guide you through CPO procedure.

Nuclear and thermal

The realisation that nuclear energy is still a vital part of the energy mix is having an electrifying effect on the industry.

Afficher Plus Afficher Moins

Existing plants are being upgraded. And new power stations are in the pipeline. With many nuclear power stations are nearing the end of their operational lives, it’s vital that their replacements will be built in the right strategic location, and in time to meet our growing energy needs.

We’ve been in the industry for over four decades, helping our clients to buy and sell land, carrying out land investigation works, and managing existing occupiers. We carry out searches to find suitable development sites, and negotiate the purchase price on behalf of our clients.

Our occupier services include specialised business rates advice, designed to mitigate our clients’ rates liabilities. We also have a sector-specific facilities management team to handle the day-to-day operation of an occupier’s premises, making sure that the day-to-day of their premises is effective and efficient. The client’s ambitions are always paramount. We provide essential support to get their projects in on time, and help them to manage costs – without compromising safety or security.

Thermal energy is still only a small part of the renewable mix, but it’s growing. We help our clients with everything from site selection to delivering consents for major new thermal power plants.

The roll-call of clients we’ve worked for includes some of the country’s largest operators, and agencies; BNFL, the NDA, Urenco, UKAEA, Magnox, RSRL, DSRL and Sellafield Limited. We’re continuing to evolve in tandem with the industry, expanding our list of available service to match – and exceed – expectations and demand.

Renewables

The future looks bright for onshore and offshore renewable energy.

Afficher Plus Afficher Moins

A combination of regulation, policy and new technology is powering the transformation and growth of the sector. We deliver highly specialised advice on renewable real estate assets to site operators and owners, agencies, and local authorities.

The services we provide are truly ‘end-to-end’; in practical terms, that means we work with clients from the pre-development stage up to and including acquisition and sale of property and land. Our familiarity with onshore renewable facilities – wind, hydro, solar photovoltaic, combined heat and power, and biomass – is matched by our market knowledge and technical expertise.

Although offshore wind currently accounts for a fraction of our energy supply, it’s another dynamic growth area. Britain’s extensive coastline – and ambitious carbon reduction targets - makes further development highly likely. We’re fully up-to-date with policy on onshore and offshore renewables, and site requirements for new projects - adding depth and nuance to our development advice.

Our advice covers all key areas of property, including:

If you have an existing asset, our consultants could help you to cut costs and get the most out it – whether for a single property, or an entire portfolio.

Our offshore supply chain expertise can also be provided as part of a wider offer of land and property advice for power and energy companies. That’s the case for both specific offshore operations, and for mixed portfolios where a client may have interests in both onshore and offshore renewables - as well as thermal and nuclear.
