01 March 2019

Office agency team and largest investment deal of 2018 recognised alongside surveyor, Alex Darlington at the CoStar Midlands Awards.

Avison Young has collected a trio of top awards at the annual CoStar Midlands Agency Awards.

The office agency team was named ‘Most Active Agency by Disposals (sq ft)’ for the 480,489 sq ft of transactions recorded across 2018, while the investment team collected the award for Deal of the Year for the acquisition of 2 Colmore Square and Cannon House, on behalf of RPMI Railpen.

The buildings were acquired from Nurton Developments for £95 million, representing a yield of 6.4% in the largest single investment transaction to take place in Birmingham in 2018, with Avison Young advising Railpen as purchaser.

Surveyor Alex Darlington from the investment team was also recognised at the awards, collecting the trophy for Best Newcomer. In the last six months, Alex has passed the APC, worked closely with senior directors on securing investment deals, including 2 Colmore Square and 54 Hagley Road.

Damian Lloyd, Avison Young, said: “These are some exceedingly strong wins for this office, recognising both the landmark deal in Railpen’s acquisition of 2 Colmore Square and Cannon House, and of the hard work of our colleagues in the office team generating almost half a million sq ft of disposals across the year.

“Working alongside Alex, I am exceedingly pleased for her in having collected the Best Newcomer award, as since joining us she has demonstrated dedication and commitment to the investment market.

“As a company, we are committed to ensuring that we are developing our teams and providing opportunities to nurture natural talent, which is exactly what Alex has demonstrated since joining us. This award is very well deserved.”
