The site was reached from the A75 east of Dumfries. From the roundabout joining the A75 with the A780 to the east of Dumfries the route was approximately 5km east along the A75. A left turn was taken onto a minor road called Linns road following the sign for Torthorwald. From there the first right was taken up a track and this lead to the site.
