Remembering Duncan: Charity Football Tournament

In 2020, we tragically lost Duncan Wright, a Chartered Surveyor who had an immense passion for football. This devastating loss came as a result of an infection contracted during a critical life-saving heart surgery that had taken place nearly two years prior. Despite undergoing two additional heart surgeries and receiving daily treatment, the infection ultimately led to Duncan's untimely passing.

In the wake of this profound loss, Duncan's family has rallied behind a noble cause, raising funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities UK. This charitable organisation offers "home away from home" accommodations and support for families whose children are undergoing medical treatment in hospitals.

Prior to his passing Avison Young had been hosting a friendly 5-a-side charitable football tournament in Edinburgh for four years. He had participated in each of these tournaments, and with the pandemic restrictions easing, Avison Young revived the annual event in 2022. They renamed it "The Duncan Wright Memorial Cup" to pay tribute to their beloved friend and colleague. The Wright family, deeply moved by this gesture, nominated Ronald McDonald House Charities as the beneficiary of the event's proceeds.

This year’s competition will be held on the November 3rd at the World of Football located within Edinburgh's Corn Exchange. The previous year's tournament successfully generated over £8,000 in donations, and this year's organisers are eagerly anticipating another strong fundraising effort as they come together to honour Duncan's memory.

Anyone can come along and there will be a raffle held on the day with some great prizes to be won. If you would like to donate and enter the raffle, please click the link here and make sure to email [email protected] if you want entry into the raffle!

"Duncan was never a victim, nor did he want to be seen as one. His journey was shorter than anyone ever imagined, and we all feel proud and privileged to have known Duncan, and so fortunate to have witnessed his journey through life for as long as we had together."

- Jim Wright, Duncan's Father
