New England House occupier testimonials

“Marie's absolutely amazing. She's brilliant at her job.”
Serena Wells, NEH Tenant, (Unit 22, level 6 North)

"We have two offices in New England House (Level 5 North Unit 8 & 4) and a team of eleven. I have only dealt with Elaine over emails but she has always been very helpful. As for Marie and Kathleen, I have been in the building for over 20 years and can’t speak highly enough of both of them. They are extremely professional and organised and ensure the smooth running of the building, whilst also being a sympathetic and helpful ear. The feeling of community in the building is in no small way due to their positive attitude and it is hugely appreciated. They are, in our minds, an inherent part of the NEH set-up and we can only give positive feedback."
Paul Jonas, Managing Director Tru Thoughts Records

"I would just like to say how fantastic Kathleen, Marie and Elaine at New England House have been since I moved in. They dealt with everything incredibly efficiently when sorting out the contract and arranging my tenancy. And they are always so helpful with the tenants needs, and also always there in the office with a smile and a warm welcome. Which I think is invaluable."
Helen Beard, Unit 10, Level 6 south

"As a happy, 9-year inmate of New England House, I know Marie and Kathleen very well. Words cannot express how great, wonderful, friendly and professional they are. They are always so friendly, and so helpful. They know NEH - and all the people in it - like no-one else, and they love the place. Re day-to-day management, the building could not be in better hands. They are proud of the building, look after it brilliantly, and are also proud and knowledgeable about all of the businesses in the building. What is so great about NEH is the community - everyone says this - and Marie and Kathleen are at the epicentre of that community and cause it to happen. Over the years I've had cause to email M and K about things that I've spotted that have gone wrong - a flickering light in the corridor; a broken-down water boiler; the usual day-to-day problems that crop up - and they are always on it and get it sorted asap. This may all sound like hyperbole, but really and truly Marie and Kathleen are totally great, and the running of the building totally relies on them and their brilliance. I can't imagine coming into the building without them."
Andrew Webb, NEH 5th floor

"I've been a tenant at New England House since 2018. We currently have three units in the building, about 2,600 sq. ft. in total. We thought from the start that Kathleen was excellent and ran a very tight ship alongside Marie in the day-to-day management. When Marie took over a few years ago we felt that quality was maintained and we're really happy they're both still managing NEH. They keep this place running very well from my perspective and they are always quick to deal with issues when raised."
Steven Grimley-Taylor, Managing Director, Thonk Ltd, Unit A, Level 7 North, New England House

"I would like to give you some heartfelt feedback on the New England House building/facilities management team. Marie and Kathleen are unfailingly helpful and positive, and incredibly knowledgeable. They always respond quickly and efficiently, and with good humour; they are a fantastic asset to your company."
Karen Miller, Area Assistant Southeast, Arts Council England

"Marie and Kathleen have always been really helpful, understanding and going above and beyond when it comes to assisting tenants. I have dealt with them for 20 years and they have always been a fundamental part of the buildings operations."
Fiona Edwards

"I am writing to give some feedback about the management team at New England House, particularly Marie and Kathleen. I don’t think I’ve ever met Elaine, although she’s always been very helpful. I’ve been a tenant here for many years and there isn’t a day goes by when I don’t appreciate how wonderful this building is. It’s bursting with kind, talented people and incredible knowledge that is generously shared. For me New England House epitomises the spirit of Brighton. But the beating heart of this building is really the manager’s office. In my eyes, Marie and Kathleen are absolute superheroes. They sail this ship with a firm hand but always putting the welfare of the tenants first. Their door is always open, and they couldn’t be more wonderful and supportive. This place would not be the same without them. They’re very special."
John Moore, John Moore Studio, Unit 11, Level 5 North.

"I only joined Zenzie Tinker as their new administrator in October and have found Marie and Kathleen endlessly patient and helpful. I’ve had a host of queries around the size of our premises, what the managing agent covers etc., not to mention organising visitor parking and drop-offs, and almost weekly visits to the electricity meter cupboard. The office team have always been generous and supportive with their time and their knowledge. I’m sure others who have been here longer will have much more to say but as a relative newbie this has been my experience so far."
Sam Bennett, Administrator, Zenzie Tinker Conservation

"The Management team at NEH have been absolutely wonderful, friendly, cheerful, extremely committed and competent. NEH could not be run better and without Marie, Kathleen and Elaine at the helm it wouldn’t be the same. We really couldn’t have a better team."
Jo Riddell, Unit 5 south, level 4

"Just wanted to let you know how good the Management Team have been over the years. Marie and Kathleen are a pleasure to work with, they are both highly professional and can be relied on at all times. Not only that, but they are also super nice and easy to get on with. In all we could not wish for a better team. I have not dealt directly with Elaine, but Marie and Kathleen speak very highly of her, that's good enough for me."
Phil Courtier, Customer Fulfilment Manager, Reilly Cycleworks

“Marie Jarvis is an absolutely outstanding building manager who always goes above and beyond in her friendly but firm, knowledgeable management of the building. Both Marie and Kathleen’s long tenure at NEH make them essential as we all attempt to navigate and weather the storms ahead with the current uncertain future of the building. I have been a tenant here for more than twenty years and I predict complete chaos if we should lose Marie and therefore Avison Young at the helm at this stage in the proceedings. Marie and Kathleen’s knowledge of the structure of the building and everything that goes on inside are irreplaceable particularly at this difficult time moving forwards with the planned work required at NEH. I cannot praise Marie in particular, enough for her dedication, hard work and tenacity in dealing with complex often difficult situations with great attention to detail and a great sense of humour. All essential requirements in a building manager. With thanks and best wishes.”
Zenzie Tinker, Director

“I can’t speak highly enough of the team at New England House. Communication is excellent and enquiries are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Marie and Kathleen are definitely in the ‘firm but fair’ school of management. It’s great to have both managers with such an in-depth knowledge of the building and the needs of many different businesses as well as real empathy with us as tenants.”
Marisa Zanotti

“Just wanted to drop a quick note at a very busy time for us, to let you know how brilliant the management team at Avison Young are. Marie, Kathleen and Elaine are quick to respond to issues both in person and through email. They keep us up to date with the goings-on in the building and always have an answer for any issues we may have, whether this is a new problem or one where historic knowledge of the building is required. They are friendly, efficient and a fantastic team.”
Karli, YEAH Laser, Unit 7D, Level 3 North, New England House

“I have been in the building for 22 years and nothing but admiration for the ladies who run the building. They are literally the best and have helped me immensely whenever I've had a problem! Great team!”
Kelly Downer

“I have worked in New England House for nearly 18 years and therefore have seen with my own eyes the improvements as a result of the handover from previous management to the current one, under the leadership of Marie Jarvis and Kathleen Jaeger. In all this time we have never had reason to complain. Never did we think that an answer, a service or a referral from these managers was 'not good enough'. I always felt that they kept a good level of control over what is ultimately a challenging site in a challenging part of town. Whether it be questions about repairs, rentals, problems with drug addicts outside, break ins or fire drills, both managers have always conducted themselves professionally with swift answers, swift actions and honesty if there was no quick answer or quick fix to a problem. We received regular updates on all things pertaining fire drills, fire safety, repairs and reprimands (e.g. tenants leaving fire doors propped or rubbish and objects in the corridors...) via the news list (most convenient for us), by email or in person. Both Marie and Kathleen run a tight ship; both of them are known for being strict but fair when it comes to enforcing safety rules for example. And yet both of them are very well liked and respected because they conduct themselves at all times in a very congenial manner that makes you want to cooperate with management. This could be said to be unusual for the relationship to any building management, which can often deteriorate into a 'them and us' … we are so grateful that they continue to be willing to serve us with a smile and with unbroken professionality from their side.”
Heike Feldpausch, Office Manager, Aerotrope Ltd.

“The work that Marie and Kathleen are doing as the management team of NEH is exceptional. They both are always helpful, give clear guidelines and information. And they always have the smooth and save running of the building at heart too. They are a treasure and Avison Young should be proud to have them as employees.”
Heike Roesel, Printmaker / Technical Instructor at University of Brighton, Brighton Etch, Unit5, Level 4 south, New England House

“Just a quick note to say how much I (and I would say all the other NEH tenants) appreciate the work and kindness of Marie and Kathleen. They are brilliant and always go out of their way to help the building run smoothly.”
