Avison Young strengthens Glasgow planning team with Associate Director reappointment

Chris Miller and Rob Newton 15 June 2026

Global commercial real estate advisor Avison Young has announced the appointment of Chris Miller as Associate Director in its Planning team in Glasgow.

Chris was previously a Planner at Avison Young for nine years, before joining renewable energy firm SSE Renewables in 2024 as a Consents Strategy Manager, working on a range of solar and battery projects.

A commercially focused chartered planning consultant, Chris has over 20 years’ experience in both the private and public sectors across the UK, having advised on a variety of major mixed-use development proposals for clients including Landsec, Capreon and igloo Regeneration.

His return to the firm will see him supporting the delivery of robust, commercially astute advice on planning strategy across all forms of development, with his recent experience and market insight from the renewable energy sector strengthening Avison Young’s capability in the industry.

Chris brings with him a blend of professional planning expertise, local market intelligence for Scotland and existing successful relationships with clients, planning authorities and other stakeholders. His appointment reflects Avison Young’s ongoing investment in its regional presence in Scotland.

Rob Newton, Principal and Head of Planning, Scotland at Avison Young, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Chris back to Avison Young. His appointment is a real investment in our planning team in Glasgow, with a high-calibre, well-recognised market expert who can drive further growth, enhance our capabilities and support clients with complex planning challenges.

“His recent experience in renewable energy will be particularly vital as the Scottish Government continues to ramp up its focus on green credentials within development.”

Chris Miller, Associate Director, Planning at Avison Young, added:
“It’s brilliant to be back at Avison Young at a time when regeneration and economic growth is top of the agenda for local authorities. The business acts as a trusted advisor to many key clients across Scotland, and I look forward to collaborating with teams internally to help drive further growth and deliver a best-in-class service to clients.”
